Care & Instruction
Care & Instruction — Refrigex Cylinder Safety Guide
1. Pre-Use Inspection
Before each use, thoroughly inspect cylinders for dents, rust, corrosion, leaks, or damage—remove any defective unit from service immediately.
Ensure all labels are clear, intact, and up-to-date, showing refrigerant type, chemical name, UN number, and fill/manufacture date.
2. Proper Storage
Always store cylinders upright and tightly secured using straps, chains, or racks to prevent tipping or falling.
Keep cylinders in a cool (under 125 °F / 52 °C), dry, and well-ventilated location, away from heat, sunlight, or ignition sources.
Separate full and empty tanks, and keep valves closed and capped when not in use.
3. Safe Transportation
Transport cylinders upright and securely strapped—use cages, racks, or safety straps to prevent movement.
Separate flammable and oxygen cylinders by at least 1 meter or as per safety guidelines.
Ensure vehicle is ventilated, and never leave tanks in hot, enclosed spaces like vans or trunks.
4. Handling & Operation
Always wear PPE: safety goggles, gloves, and protective clothing.
Use carts or forklifts to move tanks—never drag, drop, or roll them.
Open valves slowly and carefully, and never expose cylinders to flames or direct heat.
Do not overfill—keep contents under 80% to allow for safe expansion.
5. Storing Flammable / Low-GWP Refrigerants
Keep flammable cylinders in locked, ventilated cages, away from sparks, flames, or combustibles.
Install fire suppression systems, sensors, and safety signage, and follow local fire regulations.
6. End-of-Life & Disposal
When empty, close and seal valves—do not trash. Return tanks for recycling, reclamation, or certified disposal.
Never refill disposable cylinders. Use only approved refillable tanks, and retest every 10 years per safety codes.
